What would happen if a caveman had bad eyesight?

So many people today need corrective glasses or contacts I was just wondering would all these people have probably died back when we were still cavemen? I mean they would have had to have fallen of cliffs or something weird like that right? Or is having bad eyesight something that only came about once we started doing tedious things like reading and writing?
