What year is it on Desperate Housewives?

I know that when the show started, the years matched up to the years during which they aired. I know that one person says something about this- I think when Mike wakes up from his coma in Season 3, he says that he can remember only up until two years ago, 2004, which was when he moved onto Wisteria Lane. However, after Season 4, there was a five year gap. Is it now supposed to be 2016 on the show?!
