Son just diagnosed with lazy eye. is this a disability?
My 5 year old son was just diagnosed with Lazy Eye. The doctor told me he was blind in his right eye. That eye is 20/250 farsighted. I think his other eye is 20/40. I don't remember much about the other eye because I was so shocked to learn that my kid hasn't been able to see out his really bad eye all this time. He has to wear a patch over the good eye all day long for "about 3 years". He also has "color deficiency" (he got only the first color board everyone can see unless they are colorblind) and astigmatism (very slight). I've looked up social security disability for blindness in children because I don't know what the heck i'm going to do for daycare now. What if they can't get him to wear the patch? what about school?? Will I need someone to care for him that specializes in this stuff. Maybe seems a bit dramatic to you but I about had a heart attack. So SSN defines legal blindness as 20/200 or worse while wearing corrective lenses in your "good" eye. What if your good eye has to be covered by a patch? If you have any idea what I am talking about could you clue me in? Internet websites seem to be more opinion than anything....
