Friend in Induced Coma. Anyone can clue me in?

A friend of mine was in a really bad wreck. So far he has the following: tracheotomy, broken back, neck, wrist, nose, and ribs, shattered clavicle, collapsed lung and currently in an induced coma. Now for my questions. How long would it take for him to recover? Also.. they say he might be paralyzed.. but if his hand twitched, could that mean he's not? Please help :/
